The main challenges currently facing the fertilizer sector have been analysed.

Paloma Pérez, General Secretary of ANFFE has made a presentation on the sector and on Regulation 2019/1009, which regulates the fertilizer sector and which replaces the previous Regulation 2003/2003. This new legislative provision implies a series of important changes, both in terms of approach and scope, since in addition to regulating inorganic fertilizers, which were previously harmonized, other types of products are included, such as organic fertilizers, biostimulants, inhibitors, culture media, etc. In addition, the use of some by-products as component materials to manufacture fertilizer products is allowed, in line with the principles of the circular economy.

The port of Seville, a logistics and industrial node in the south of the peninsula, stood out as one of the main Spanish ports for fertilizer trade, with imports of more than 500,000 t/a and exports close to 80,000 t/a of product.
